I love Japanese food when I go to restaurants.  I'd like to know what Japanese families often eat at home for dinner.  Can someone tell me some simple Japanese recipes that I could try for dinner?  Please make them fairly simple.  Some healthy vegetable dishes would be great Smiley

I think Japanese families often eat at home for dinner is a custom and tradition .en..Chinese also eat at home, we love a big family gether laugh, eat and talk about things that happens in our dayily life.
Does Canadian not for dinner at home?

Japanese recipes
I know a little
1 sushi

Sushi are small riceballs covered with a variety of seafoods, usually seaweed, fish eggs, and slices of raw fish.


2 raw fish

It's very dilicious.

3  riceball

Here is a recipe of Japanese food, a very common and simple Japanese side dish, called ''Hou-ren-sou no goma-ae'' means ''Spinaches with sesame paste sauce''.

Ingredients for 2 or 3 people
 Spinaches  4 bunches
 Sesames    about 30g (about 1 of soup spoon)
 Soy souse   about 30cc (about 1 of soup spoon)
 Sugar      about 30cc (about 1 of soup spoon, wear-out)
 Salt        1 pinch

1.   To boil Spinaches with 1 pinch of salt.
At first, the root side into boiling water and count 5 seconds, then leafs into.
2.   A few seconds later, the leaf’s color changes into deep green.
Then, put the spinaches out of boiling water and wash them with cool water until becoming cool enough you could touch them by your fingers.
3.   Cut the spinaches into pieces about 2 inches long.
4.   Squeeze the spinaches to drain water from them.
Don’t squeeze them too much! You must stop before crushing them.
5.   Then, sesames.
I like sesame paste and we have special tools to make sesame paste in Japan, a bowl named ‘’suri-bachi’’ and a stick named ‘’suri-kogi’’. But I think you don’t have them or you can’t find them in China.
So, maybe you can use some food cutter machine, or, simply take sesames without crunching. That’s OK!
6.   To mix sesames, soy sauce, sugar in a bowl. It is the sauce.
7.   To mix the spinaches with the sauce in the bowl.
8.   Done! It’s time for eating!

You can take other ingredients into it, like tuna, cold meat, other vegetables etc. with spinach. Or, other vegetables in stead of spinach like boiled cabbage, sliced and boiled radish (Japanese radish ‘’Daikon’’), bean sprout, etc.
Also, you can use peanuts butter and soy sauce in stead of the sesame paste sauce if you have enough courage…

I think the recipe that I introduced above will be much sweeter than I tended to.
I always make this food with rough estimate that comes from my experience.

If it is too salty, take less amount of soy sauce.
If it is too sweet, take less amount of sugar.

These days, people think about that sugar causes bad effect on their body shape, but sugar is one of important source of energy. And, any food causes bad effect when you eat them more than necessity.
I think the most important thing to keep your shape is eat many kind of food enough, not less and not much more.

I love Japanese food and once I made sushi myself.
The taste was good and my friends liked it. But the problem was the total cost of all ingredients for this delicious dish.
Luckily my friends offered to chip in for this. Next time I'll definately try to make something new for them.
