This esl podcast is about a very unwanted phone call early in the morning. Why would anyone call so early in the morning and wake someone up? Let’s find out why.

I was sleeping in after a very late Friday night and the phone rang. I felt absolutely rancid! I rushed to get the phone wondering who on earth would be calling at such an hour. Great, it was my mom. I asked her what was so important. She said, “oh nothing important, just wanted to say good morning”. I made an excuse to her that I really needed to go the bathroom, so I let her go quickly. What a relief to get back in to bed! 5 minutes after I was totally asleep, the phone rang again. It was my mom again. She forgot to mention to me that she was calling from her cell phone and was now in the driveway waiting for me so she could take me to breakfast. I guess that’s what I get for making an excuse! |
Key vocabulary and phrases that are discussed in the podcast:
Rancid – rotten, bad, spoiled
who on earth – a phrase that is used when you have no idea who the person could be.
such an hour – a very early or late time
let her go – finish the conversation with her and end the phone call.
Relief - a feeling of relaxation
totally asleep – completely sleeping
forgot to mention – forgot to tell someone
driveway – a place where you park your car beside a house
that’s what I get for – is a phrase used when you do something that you shouldn’t have done and somehow you have some consequences for your actions or behaviour.

Hi everyone,
Come on …. the voice´s mom was only a example …. please, don´t worry about that … I am sure our friends love their mother !!!!
The fact is … we don´t know all the culture spread around the world, cause that sometimes, it is common, some cultures mistakes.
Cheers,
Adriano

second, guys . . our beloved (Andrew & Addison) didn’t mean to be making fun of their mom . . . . NOT at all, so no worries, they only are doing their best to give us a great opportunity to learn about different cultures.
Please, guys, don’t get them wrong.
